Hello Everyone!

Are you coming to the PAAOHN Conference scheduled for March 13 and 14 at the Doubletree Hotel in Monroeville, PA?  We have a great lineup of speakers and topic and you won't want to miss it!

Can't make it to Jacksonville for the National Conference?  This will be a great alternative with a much lower price for those who are local to Pittsburgh.  This means you can earn valuable CEU credits (12 CEU units) at significant savings, and extend your professional network.

To register, just go to the PAAOHN website and click on the link and follow the prompts. . Deadline for registration is Friday, March 1, 2019.

For any of you who are planning to attend but just have not "gotten around" to register for the conference as well as reserved a room - now is the time!  Don't wait and then find out there is no room.  A block of rooms is available at the DoubleTree in Monroeville at $109.00 for 1 or 2 people.  If you plan to book a room there, please DO IT NOW!  These rooms are available at this rate only until February 19.  So, please call the hotel directly at 412-373-7300 and mention PAAOHN for the reduced rate.

The Agenda is available on the PAAOHN site

As a reminder to all of our members from the SouthWest, we WILL NOT be having a September conference, since the State Conference will be held in Pittsburgh in March.  So, don't delay thinking there will be another event held locally this year.

At the conference, we will be collecting donations in support of a local charity, the Angels of Allegheny,  who provide services for nurses who have passed on with a memorial ceremony and the retirement of the state license. They will be performing a sample ceremony at the start of the conference on Wednesday. In recognition of our profession please proudly wear your nursing pin to the conference and we will recognize those educational nursing programs. A display will be set up in our hospitality room honoring nurses past and present, so if you wish to bring something to display it would be welcome, nursing caps, capes, lanterns, etc.

We will be having basket raffle throughout the conference and donations of items or gift cards are most welcome and can be forwarded to the attention of any board member.

And another reminder for those of you needing to renew your nursing license in 2019.  It is not required that all nurses renewing your license must complete your Act 31 mandated reporter child abuse and recognition and reporter training. A free online course is offered by Pennsylvania Child Welfare Resource Center and the University of Pittsburgh. Go to: https://reportabusepa.pitt.edu{reportabusepa.pitt.edu}
This course is approved for three continuing education credits.  This is an easy way to complete required training!

Last, but not the least important is please consider helping out at the local or state level, leadership is tremendous and will keep local and state chapters thriving.  We need YOUR new ideas and input!  Why not "put your hat in the ring" and volunteer to help plan and run our conferences and local educational events. If you have any questions, please contact any Board member. We will be very happy to spend some time with you and explain what we do!

Thanks.  I look forward to seeing many of you at the Conference.
